Here’s the story of how Astronaut hired Levi (our awesome new People Operations and Culture Lead) in just two weeks, starting with over 433 viable candidates. 

A shorter time-to-hire is a huge benefit for companies allowing them to have productive employees, faster, improving productivity and efficiency. It improves morale and helps attract top talent. It shows that a company values efficiency and is able to make fast decisions. 

How did we achieve the hire in two weeks? We used all of our key features, to deliver skills tests and automated structured interviews, super fast, to all applicants. 

Led by our Head of Talent Assessment, Sheeren Yolanda, we created a unique skill and technical test (MCQs with automated scoring, and structured on-demand video interview) for all 433 candidates, covering technical knowledge, technical experience, and situational judgment assessment. Candidates had 3 days to complete but most completed it in the first 24 hours. 

From this, 54 candidates were deemed to have the level of skill we needed and we watched their on-demand video interview answers. This was like interviewing 54 candidates in 1 day, impossible without using automation like Astronaut. And there was no need to coordinate schedules with the candidates or our team. This structured on-demand video interview method also ensures we eliminate interview bias and greatly reduce reviewer bias as we invited multiple team members, including our CEO, to review and assess each candidate.

This allowed us to shortlist 13 candidates, a manageable number for synchronous interviews, which we held over 3 days, and identified Yahdi Fahlevi Haropis (aka Levi) as our preferred candidate. Levi is a former Recruitment & Assessment Assistant Manager with SiCepat.

Throughout the process, Levi was pleasantly surprised by the flexibility of the Astronaut platform. He noted that without the flexibility offered by the Astronaut platform, it would have been difficult for him to fit the process into his business family and professional life. 

“Without the use of Astronaut, I would not have benefitted from being able to interview at the most convenient time for me, which is Sunday afternoon! Recruiters never work at that time but it’s most convenient for me” said Levi.
